Sterling
Weekly for January 2nd, 2006
|
Friday of last week marked
the last trading day of 2005,
which is now officially done
and in the books. As usually
I am publishing my report on
the performance of the indices
I track. The table below contains
the 34 indices I track on a
daily basis. This includes three
(3) interest rate indices (the
FVX, TNX, & TYX), and 31
equity indices. In 2005 we saw
a flattening of the yield curve
as the Fed continued to raise
short term interest rates without
any significant impact on long
term rates. Looking at the equity
indices we see that the 4 of
the 5 top performing sector
indices were related to either
commodities or broker/dealers
that were expected to profit
from the trading of commodities.
In fact 6 of the top 7 sector
indices would fit this profile
if you consider that computer
memory storage is almost a commodity
product. In general the high
tech indices did not perform
that well, and there doesn't
seam to be much correlation
between those indices that were
negative on the year other than
concerns relating to the economy.
