Today’s Comments: The overall
market finished Wednesday sharply higher in
one of the strongest days of trading I have
seen in quite some time. It was a very broad
based move that saw the vast majority of the
sector indices I track move higher. The strongest
sectors on the day were the Broker/Dealers,
Retailers, Interactives, Internet, Banking,
Insurance, Natural Gas, Oil & Gas, Pharmaceuticals,
Airlines, Consumer, Cyclicals, Commodities,
and Biotech indices. There was weakness in the
in the Gold/Silver stocks. The bond market was
strong as interest rates moved lower. Having
reviewed the charts from yesterday's trading
activity, the vast majority of the sector indices
I track look as if they are starting what is
going to be at least a short term rally. Many
of the heavy volume stocks also appear to be
starting a rally higher. It does appear that
the overall prospects for the market are good;
at least for the short term. The Bottom
Line: The overall market should move
higher.

Our
Analysis: The shares of Merrill Lynch
& Co. 'MER' set a new yearly closing
high yesterday on heavier than normal
trading volume. They are a component of
the Amex Broker/Dealer Index 'XBD' which
I have rated as moving higher from its
current levels. These are two bullish
trading signals. In the process of setting
its new yearly high yesterday the shares
of 'MER' completed a pair of "cup
patterns" with measured moves to
our stated price targets of $64.73 and
$70.62/share respectively. I am seeing
downside support on the shares of 'MER'
at $61.55/share and have set my stops
accordingly at $61.14/share. |
